redefiningbodyimage:

As I’ve been researching ways to improve my health sans-anxiety and discouragement, along with learning more about Health At Every Size, I came across an article featuring the above video and found it to be very well executed and informative so I thought I’d share. :)

The amazing part about this video is what Dr. Evans says about “obesity.” He asserts that, based on the research (and he seems well read), when one walks 30 minutes a day, s/he effectively reduces/removes the otherwise negative effects correlated with “obesity.”

That is, you can be fat and healthy or skinny and healthy so long as you walk about thirty minutes a day. That’s amazing!

And if you have trouble walking due to mobility issues, the key thing is to get some kind of movement. If you have to use a hand bike, that’s fine, too. There are so many things one can do, but make sure that it’s pleasurable body movement.

I’m thrilled that 1.1 million people have watched this video to great acclaim and they’re all being told that fat and healthy is totally possible - it’s all about movement, not size! That means that Dr. Evans is effectively spreading the word about Health at Every Size: you can be fat and healthy. How? Just walk!

I think for me it helps to put it into such simple terms. There is no reason to push yourself further than you need to go - If you listen to your body and can tell something’s up, just move and do what feels right. Take a walk and enjoy the world (although listening to the wind and snow howling outside right now doesn’t make that out to be appealing at the moment…) Maintain your own pace.
